How We Have Grown
Willowbridge is situated on the site which was the breathtaking Catforth Gardens. We do not intend to recreate Catforth gardens as it was renowned for their amazing Cottage Gardens, they also held the National Collection of Hardy Geraniums
Our Story
Willowbridge Plants is a small family nursery which is run by Karl Shorrock along with Angela and David and some help from friends and family and began 10 years ago ,when Karl left Myerscough College (which is one of the UKs largest land based colleges).
Karl gained a wealth of Horticultural knowledge and qualifications in his 30 years at Myerscough. His career started when he was employed as a groundsman at Winmarleigh Hall, which progressed to him being the Horticultural Commercial Manager at Myerscough College.
Willowbridge Plants is and what was, the absolutely amazing Catforth Gardens, which were renowned for their amazing Cottage Gardens, they also held the National Collection of Hardy Geraniums. We do not intend to recreate Catforth Gardens as it was, but what we do intend to do, is make it somewhere for you to come to find inspiration and advice on what works for ‘You’ and ‘Your’ garden- no garden is too small – Wherever you want plants, we will have something for you!
Willowbridge have been on the site for over 15 years but, we are pleased to announce that we have now recently moved here, making it our family home.
For the time being, while we settle in, we will continue with limited opening times but hope to be able to change this in the near future.
What We Do
Willowbridge Plants is a traditional plantnursery , growing an extensive range of plants which include a selection of trees, shrubs, perennials and bedding . Many of our plants are propagated on site as we are trying to retain older, newer and unusual varieties.Just one of our specialities is Japanese Maples, which we graft ourselves in-house.
We attend Gresgath Hall at Caton near Lancaster on their Garden open days, where we take a selection of plants which we have on the nursery. www.gresgarthhall.com.
As we look towards the future, we are working hard to provide a bio-diverse range of plants on our nursery, which are beneficial to both Wildlife and their environment. Our horticultural practices are Eco-friendly, as we use Peat Free compost and biological control for any pests. We have also sourced recyclable pots but, please bear with us whilst some of the black pots still come through the system!
We will be running short courses and Karl will continue to offer his specialised planting advice .
We are currently working on our Wildlife Friendly collections and we have a designated link www.wildlifefriendly.co.uk , this will have full collections for you to browse through over the next year.
We are more than happy to chat and discuss your needs and look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon
Collectors Corner
We are plant lovers and we love finding a new variety and some take years to propagate and build enough numbers up but we like to share our finds with enthusiastic gardeners.
